Remote Access Options

What are the options for remote access. By this I mean being able to work on a PLCnext project, send it to the controller, debug in online mode, etc. just as if it were directly connected to my PC. Is Proficloud capable of this? What about mGuard? Do they do 2 different things? 3rd party(eWon)?

  • Is Proficloud capable of this?

    No.

    What about mGuard?

    Yes.

Do they do 2 different things?

Yes. Proficloud doesn't offer a VPN service. mGuard devices are routers, and some of those offer VPN capability, either through the mGuard Secure Cloud service, or (if you want) using your own VPN setup. The mGuard app in the PLCnext Store allows a PLCnext Control device with an internet connection to connect directly to the mGuard Secure Cloud service. You can then use the mGuard Secure Cloud website to set up a VPN tunnel between a PC and the PLC. The PC must have mGuard VPN Client software installed. Your local Phoenix Contact office will be able to give you more information about mGuard.

    3rd party(eWon)?

You'll need to check with the 3rd party.

    Hi,

I am using mGuard secure cloud and Shrew Soft and i want to debug my PLC (2152) remotely via VPN. I already ping the PLC (192.100.0.175) and the mGuard (192.100.0.1) on Command Prompt and have response.

But I'm having some troubles trying to connect to the PLC on PLCNext Engineer (I'm using version 2022.9):

When I search the PLC on "Online Controllers" I set the option of connection on "Shrew Soft" but it doesn't find any device. So, I cant even establish connection to start debugging or even writing the program on the PLC.

    What i need to do?

    Thanks!

  • Sorry for the late response; I just saw thread while searching for something else.

In case you haven't figured it out already, I don't think the SCAN function will work for a remote device connected via VPN...or at least it didn't in the past when I tried.

    Instead:

    • Establish the VPN tunnel
    • Open your project for the remote PLCnext.
    • Right click on the remote PLCnext in the project tree and select Connect.

Hope this helps (if not you, then someone else looking for an answer).
