  • Here is the answer from the PLCnext Engineer support team:

there seems to be an installation error. Installation files may be blocked by a firewall or virus scanner. Should be deactivated as a test and perform the installation as admin. Please uninstall the latest PLCnext Engineerint version 2023.0 LTS and reinstall as admin.

  • I also have the same issue.

I followed Martin's procedure, uninstalled PLCnext Engineer, rebooted the PC just in case, reinstalled the application as an administrator without any anti-virus software, and retried "Scan the network" choosing the appropriate ethernet controller.

But, I received the message "No device found. (MSG_ONL0166)".

Right after it, I retried the same operation and received "Could not communicate with the Profinet stack. (MSG_ONL0185)" and "No device found. (MSG_ONL0166)". Anti-virus software was disabled during it.

  • This is an addition to my above comment.

I uninstalled "Npcap OEM 1.71" after uninstalling PLCnext Engineer and reinstalled PLCnext Engineer as an administrator without anti-virus software.

But MSG_ONL0185 and MSG_ONL0166 appeared again.

    Thanks.

  • I've also the same problem. I proceeded in the same way like Nao.Y.

    Thanks for support!

  • The problem seems to be that PnE is not released for Windows 11.

  • @GJDuesseldorf The system requirements page in the help says you can use Win 11

I'm using Win 11 since it was released and haven't encountered the issues described in this post.

  • Does wireshark work fine on your system?

If not then it might be related to npcap and you could try to install a different version of it.

  • Dear all,

this issue seems to be related to NPCAP or the driver for the LAN interface.

If affected, uninstalling the win11 eth driver and installing a win10 driver should solve the issue.

We met this problem only with realtec drivers which are used with our USB Ethernet Interfaces.

Here is a link for a more detaild description:

    Kind regards

  • Thanks Kollo, after installing npcap-1.60.exe it works.

  • I ran into this error on Windows 10 with PLCnext Engineer 2024 on a new computer.

I could not solve it by running as admin and/or re-installing and running as administrator.

I was able to connect to the the controller by IP and when building it complained about the lack of .NET runtime 7

I already had several other versions (4 & 8), but installing the runtime and SDK of 7 solved my issue.

I have the same issue. With PLCnext Engineer 2024.0 LTS it is not possible to scan for PN devices. The message "Cannot communicate with Profinet stack" appears. With PLCnext Engineer version 2023.9 on the same computer, it works without errors. I am using Windows 10. Is there anything I can do?

  • I had to upgrade to Windows 11, and when I did, I got the Profinet Stack error. The update installed npcap to 1.71, I uninstalled it and reinstalled 1.6, and it fixed the problem for me.
