Communication PLC NEXT with IO-LINK master

Hi, I request your collaboration in PLC communication with IO-LINK Master from manufacturer SICK (IOLG2PN-03208R01)

I have only managed to read digital sensors through PROFINET, but for IO-LINK apparently they should be used function blocks.    It is possible use the IO-LINK library of PLCNEXT?

the manufacturer only delivers communication blocks for TIA PORTAL

Attach my project.

Regards from Chile.

  • Hello,

The IO Link library for PLCnext Engineer is only designed for use with Phoenix Contact IO Link master modules, like the AXL E PN IOL8 DI4 M12 6M.

I am pretty sure that the IO Link specification only deals with IOL master-slave communications, not the layout of data on fieldbus networks like Profinet, which is likely to be vendor-specific.

So in this case you will need to either (a) use a Phoenix Contact IO Link master module, or (b) use information in the user manual for the SICK device to find out the layout of their Profinet I/O data space, and use this information in your PLCnext Engineer project.

  • I have had the same problem. But our local supporter her in Denmark was able to get me started.

Dan, if you are reading this, would it not be possible to put a blog up with your how-to info's? As you can see, there are a few more like me, that need a helping hand.

  • There is a getting started guide for IO-Link from a Community member, here:

    https://www.plcnext-community.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=303:plcnext-and-iolink&catid=78&Itemid=366&lang=en

That guide uses a Phoenix Contact IO-Link master, and so may not be applicable for IO-Link masters from other manufacturers.

  • Hello Martin,

I have the same issue, I have AXC F 2152 with IFM IO-link master AL1402 with an RGB LAMP/ DV2130 from IFM. I can only reach PROFINET IO and control some of the functionality of DV2130. I tried to use IOL_COM from the IOL_BASIC library to communicate with DV2130 but I could not since the function block cannot not be active. According to the manual, this function block only works with Phoenix contact IO-Link master. I want to know if there is a possibility to use plcnext PLCs with a third-party IO-link master.

    Best regards,

    Ayoub
