PLCnext equivalent of "IPAssign" tool
Hi,
I need a tool like "IPAssign" that can works with the PLCnext. Any suggestion?
We often have to do remote assistance with our client to configure our product, using TeamViewer for example. This configuration is made using our HMI custom pages. But we often get customer request to change the PLCnext IP address itself to fit into their new IT network specifications. Some other time just not sure what was the original IP altogether... I do feel confortable to ask our customer to install the full development just to handles theses problems...
Thanks.

Hi Frédéric,
You can use the Netnames tool to change the ip addess of the PLC. This uses DCP, and so relies on the fact that the PLC is a Profinet device.
This is available from the main Phoenix Contact web site - search for "netnames" in the search bar, and select any of the products that appear. Netnames can be downloaded from the "Downloads" section of any of those product detail pages.
Hope this helps.

Hi Martin,
I found and downloaded NetNames v1.5. But it did work not either.
My computer use a direct Ethernet cable connection to the PLCnext, and the computer network is configured to access this subnet where the PLCnext uses its default IP address of 192.168.1.10
I used WBM to disable the firewall, but it did not help. Also, I checked with WBM that Profinet is activated.
Since NetNames is not part of the PLCnext download page, can we conclude that this application was never tested with the PLCnext?
This is really strange as I can start a scan from the PLCnext Engineer environment that actually works. Changing IP is also functional…

Hi Frédéric,
Netnames v 1.5 works fine for me.
Others on the Forum have also had success with Netnames, even in cases where PLCnext Engineer did not work.

Hi Frédéric,
depending on your OS configuration and your user permissions it is sometimes necessary to call netnames in admin mode.
Please make also sure, that you're using the correct NIC.
One another hint, as netnames was original designed to just assign Profinet Names (PN-DCP) to Profinet devies, it assigns in default mode the IPs only temporary.
You can change this via the options.
Please keep also in mind that PN-DCP is a layer 2 protocol, so it will not work over a routed network.

Hello Frédéric,
you can also check your network adapters settings if the NPCAP Drivers are enabled.
(at the Network settings where you usually manually assign IP addresses.)
Also the Link Layer Discovery drivers are necessary for NetNames / DCP in general to function I think.
I noticed in the past some Customers with restricted Windows installations or OEM that these drivers were disabled by default.
If DCP in PLCnext Engineer keeps working this might be related to different NPCAP Drivers beeing used.
Recently the NPCAP Version used in the PLCnext Engineer was updated.
So this Problem should only occure if specific versions of PLCnext Engineer ,NetNames / PC Worx or any other PCAP relient software is installed.
kind regards,
Oliver
It finally worked !
Thanks for all your answers !
Final suggestion: Please add this tools to the PLCnext software download page.
