Methods of function blocks linked to OPC UA Methods

Hello,

I was hoping that when creating a method in a function block, this method would be available as OPC UA Method on the OPC UA server of the controller.
It doesn't appear to be the case. Is there a way of doing that?

If not, are there plans of doing that?

I think that could be an interesting feature to make the whole ecosystem more object oriented...

Kind regards,

Adrien

  • Hi Adrien,

I can confirm that the UA Server will support Methods within one of the next Firmware version.

For the coupling with FB Methods, well we're thinking about it ?.

    Take care

  • Hi Adrien,

sorry for the delay, but now I've received the feedback.

Within the next Firmware versions (latest 2021.0) we will offer functionblocks who are able to create and utilize the UA Methods
We've discussed internal also your idea and it might be also an option for the future, but for the start we'll go the way a separate function blocks.

Thanks once again for your idea and I would love to get more of them :-)

    Take care

  • Hello Frank,

Thank you for your investigation and answer.

I guess in a first step it will be possible to link those new FB's to a method of a function block in a manual way.

I think for the object oriented working of our PLC that the full integration would be ideal.

It's difficult to make great commercial slogans from such technical stuff, but in some projets this could save us a lot of time for SCADA - PLC integration.

Who knows with the further rise of OPC UA this can become a topic of discussions.

    Kind regards,

    Adrien
