Revision does not match - can't find the right firmware option for the project device so that it matches the physical PLCnext

edited August 2021 in PLCnext Engineer
Hello! I'm learning to use the PLCnext Engineer 2021.6 with a PLCnext AXC F 2152 2404267. After applying the project device setting to the online device, I receive a status warning stating that revision does not match. I had selected 0/2021.6.0, and the online PLC has 2/2021.0.5, which is not selectable as an option to use in a new project. What can I do? Thanks for the attention.
(the closest I have available as an option is 0/2021.0.0 but it's not the same as 2/2021.0.5)Hello! I'm learning to use the PLCnext Engineer with a Demo PLCnext AXC F 2152 2404267. When trying to do what I see in the video, after applying the project device setting to the online device, I receive a status warning stating that revision does not match. EDIT: added PLCnext Engineer version.

  • Hi,
Yes, you are correct on both counts - PLCnext Engineer does not have the option to select a PLC with firmware version 2021.0.5, and firmware version 2021.0.0 is not the same as version 2021.0.5.
PLCnext Engineer will allow you to send a project to the PLC if the (online) PLC has a firmware version later than or equal to the firmware version of the PLC in the (offline) PLCnext Engineer project. It could be argued that all the hotfix firmware versions should also be available for selection in PLCnext Engineer, but this would make the number of possible options overwhelming, without having a significant extra benefit.
    I hope this helps.

For sure it helped, Martin. Thanks for your time and sorry for my beginner lack of knowledge. Have a nice day.
  • No worries, no need to apologise. It is a good question and - thanks to you - other new users with the same question can now get the answer here.
  • Hi. I hope you all are well. I am also new to PLCnext. How does one find the version of the online PLC? I only find the project version by scanning devices. In the event of the online version having an earlier version than the project version will it work although only a warning is received regarding the difference in versions.
  • > How does one find the version of the online PLC?

One way is through the web-based management page on the PLC:
    https://www.plcnext.help/te/WBM/Administration_Firmware_Update.htm

"note the currently installed firmware version which is displayed on the General Data WBM page, ..."

    > In the event of the online version having an earlier version than the project version will it work although only a warning is received regarding the difference in versions.

If a PLCnext Engineer project is developed for a later firmware version, then it might use features that were not included in the earlier firmware version, so this will not work.
  • Thank you for the quick response and guidance.

For newbies this advise of yours "PLCnext Engineer will allow you to send a project to the PLC if the (online) PLC has a firmware version later than or equal to the firmware version of the PLC in the (offline) PLCnext Engineer project." is spot on.
  • Great, I'm glad this was useful.
This means that users are able to upgrade the firmware in their PLC to benefit from security patches (for example), without having to change the version of the controller in the original PLCnext Engineer project.
