Compatibility of new and old version of PLCnext Eng. and FW PLCnext controlers

Hello, regarding of the ongoing active developments of PLCnext Eng and FW of Controlers, the question arises as to how it works backward Compatibility. CPU with FW 2019.x I can

to use in all 2019.x versions of Engineer limited to old features. To use the new functionality, the Engineer version is the same or higher. What is the plan to do it in the future?
HW as such, I suppose it will be manufactured unchanged for many years. But if I will use one or two years later the Engineer 2021.09 and will try to connect with the FW 2019.6 PLC, can I upload the project from the PLC (if there are some sources) without the need to change the Engineer version? Or I will need to upgrade FW PLC? Will 100% program functionality be maintained? what is the idea? Thanks, Roman

Hi Roman, basically is the strategy the same like for PC Worx, means the device description must be <= FW version of the PLC. As long the device description is available in PLCnext Engineer, you can use than also newer versions of the PLCnext Engineer with older FW versions. Take care Frank
