Datalog

Hello, On youtube there are a few video’s about datalogging. However, in the plcnext store is also datalogger available and also PLCnextBase. Together it’s possible to copy data to a FTP server. Is there a tutorial or an example about this somewhere? Is the youtube video the easiest way or is using the library easier? Arne

Hello Arne, this depends on what you want to do.

the System DataLogger is configuration based and enables you to log GDS data.
The DataLogger in the PLCnext Store is a PLCnext Engineer Library and makes logging of IEC Variables ect. easy. You can find a System DataLogger example at the PLCnext Technology · GitHub organisation.

kind regards,
Oliver

I’m not really into servers etc, but is it possible to save the data directly outside the PLCnext?

Hi Arne, This is not possible with the System data logger. It might be possible with the data logger library, but this wouldn’t be recommended because that library is not designed to handle network interruptions (I think). Two options for data storage on remote servers might be:

                                               1. Log data to a local file (using either the system data logger or the PLCnEng library), and periodically copy the file(s) to a remote server using something like `rsync`.
                                               2. Use a cloud service (like an MQTT broker, or AWS, or Azure) and send data directly to that service for remote storage. Client software for these services is usually designed to handle network interruptions.

Martin.
