eHMI "Execute Command" action

Hello, I was looking through the dynamics for a button and found the Execute Command action. I have a couple of questions regarding this feature I was hoping you could clarify as they are not very specific in the Help File. Support Files: Is there a preferred file type? Are there any restricted file types or features (Size, resolution, page limits, pictures, etc.)? Open project: How is it possible to have more than one Application? I can not find a way to add a second HMI Application in Engineer. Run Command Line: Can this run higher level language scripts in the controllers filesystem? (bash, python, nodejs) If so could an example be provided? Close application: If the application is “closed”, how could it be re-opened? Thank you!

Hello, Is there any updated information on this question? Thanks!

Hello Phoenix,

Is there some info or progress about this item?
Kind regards, Wilco

A bit more detail about what I’m seeking for: In the PLCnext Engineer online manual there is a part about the dynamic ‘Execute Command’ with an example where a Windows batch file is started. I need to do something alike; by pushing a button, I want to start a batch file on the Windows machine where MS Edge is showing the HMI. The batch file includes a command to run osk.exe.

In the manual there is a remark that this option only works on a PLCnext Engineer HMI Native Client; but what is this?
Kind regards, Wilco

Hello!

Based on my experiences:
Support Files: Is there a preferred file type? Are there any restricted file types or features (Size, resolution, page limits, pictures, etc.)?
It could be any file, zip, exe, sh, pdf, html, etc, everything that underlying nginx could handle in some acceptable size.
Open project: How is it possible to have more than one Application? I can not find a way to add a second HMI Application in Engineer.
You can have only one application per project, but you can organize navigation and visu pages to obtain different behavior of visu-parts. And restrict access with user management.
Run Command Line: Can this run higher level language scripts in the controllers filesystem? (bash, python, nodejs) If so could an example be provided? Yes, with PLCNextBase Library https://www.plcnextstore.com/world/app/2390 and PBCL_SysLinuxShell_1 function block you can achieve flexible and dynamic interaction with plc linux shell and power of gnu))
Close application: If the application is “closed”, how could it be re-opened?
This is about interaction with web-panels or similar. Can’t suggest exactly.

Hello,

The “Execute Command” action is blocked by all commercial browsers to prevent malicious actions on the host operating system and for other security issue that arise when accessing general web site.
The “Execute Command” dynamic can only be used by the native client; however, the Native Client application and technology is still under development. The Native Client is not generally available at this time.
When more information becomes available, we will provide an update.
Best Regards
