Looking for experiences with Robot Operating System (ROS) on AXCF2152

Hi together, I intend to implement the Robot Operating System (ROS) on the AXC F 2152. Does anybody have experiences with ROS? I have already started to crosscompile the ROS packages without success…

Hi Marvin, we’ve no experience with ROS on the AXC F 2152, but sounds like an interesting project. Maybe another Community member did made some tests… Anyhow it would be fine if you can keep us updated. Thanks and have a good start into the week ?

Hi. My customer is developing a new AGV based on the ROS(Robot operating System ),which can run on the platform of Ubuntu or Debian. Have you taken a test of ROS? I am not sure whether the ROS can be run in the AXC F 2152. I think I can installed the ROS of Debian in AXC F 2152. Is there any advise? Thank you.

Hi guys, I was able to cross-compile ROS2 ardent for the AXC F 2152. After copying it to the target, I tried to run a roscore. Unfortunately I run in a lot of errors, caused by missing dependencies. I have been able to solve a variety of the mistakes, but then I run in a pkg_resources.DistributionNotFound error, which is unsolvable for me at the moment. Marvin

Hello, I have a customer who also want to use ROS but also have trouble with. Does someone suceed to install it since ?

Hello pxcfr-ima, Marvin (the original poster) will be able to give you an update on this topic. He has given his email address in his username. ~ Martin.

Hi guys, Just wondering where Marvin ended up roughly with getting ROS2 to work on the AXCF 2152? I tried sending an email to the above address but it was blocked. Were you successful in the end, and if so, how painful was resolving the dependencies amongst other issues? Any feedback would be great (no need to go into significant detail, just looking to see if there was some success in the end). I guess an alternative if it proved too difficult, might be to port MicroROS (https://micro.ros.org/) instead and run a more minimal instance of ROS2 (atleast for the application wherein the AXCF 2152 is intended to be treated as a single node in a larger system akin to a micro) ?

Taking a closer look at the documentation, it might appear that a better way to get ROS2 working without platform/dependency headaches is to run it either in a docker or balena engine container. Hence (GitHub - PLCnext/Docker_GettingStarted: HowTo get a Docker like container engine (Balena-Engine) running on PLCnext Control. · GitHub) + (Running ROS 2 nodes in Docker [community-contributed] — ROS 2 Documentation: Foxy documentation) or (GitHub - balena-io-examples/balena-ros2-foxy-desktop: An installation of ROS2 Foxy in a container, with a full desktop environment, ready to deploy on balena devices. · GitHub).

Someone else has taken over this work from Marvin. An update will be posted here when available.

Hi everyone, after we repeatedly had problems due to still missing dependencies, we took exactly this way. We decided to run the ROS instance in a balena engine container. We were able to successfully test the containers with ROS melodic and noetic on a AXCF 3152, but we have no experience with ROS2 yet. At the moment there are activities in background regarding an interface to exchange data between the ROS instance and the PLCnext environment, but these will take time until the middle of the year until we get a stable version. ROS2 will also be considered here. I hope I could help. Best regards Hermann
