With a PLCnext RFC4072S on my desk I want to do some tests. Coming from PLCnext Engineer 2021.6 (with no RFC controllers in it’s library), I installed PLCnext Engineer 2022.0.1. But with a bit of a surprise also here nothing about a RFC. No project templates for my RFC4072 and also no project templates anymore for my EPC1522. Why? Or do I have to install some additional packages?
The RFC has firmware rev. at 2021.0.0 so I checked als PLCnext Engineer 2021.0.5, but also nothing…
So I need some help. Anyone?
Kind regards, Wilco
I’m not sure about the EPCs (I will check this) but to get the RFC devices in the component tree you need to add the RFC library to your project. This library is installed with PLCnext Engineer, so you only need to add it to your project. It has always been possible to use RFCs in PLCnext Engineer in this way.
The last time I checked, a project can only include an RFC 4072S if you have activated the Safety license in PLCnext Engineer. This is required even if you are not using the Safety features of the RFC in your project.
Hello Martin,
Thanks for your direct response, much appreciated ![]()
Indeed with the RFC library, RFC controllers are added to the ‚Network‘ list. And indeed there is a RFC4072S (witch I have) with firmware 2021.0.0 with a lock, to use it with a Safety license. Also, in the ‚Network‘ list there is choice to use the RFC4072S without safety, witch I want. But… it is related to firmware 2022.0.0 and my RFC has firmware 2021.0.0. So I need a firmware update, but I can not find it on the PhoenixContact site…
Still need some help…
Kind regards, Wilco
The 2022 LTS firmware version has probably not been released for the RFC 4072S yet (I can check for sure on Monday).
I don’t have my laptop open now, but if the device tree is anything like for the AXCs, it should also give the option of an RFC with FW version 2021.0 ?
If not, then you may need to use an old version of Engineer to get the older RFC version, for the moment.
Checked older version of Engineer; they don’t have the option to use the RFC without safety…
I will contact your colleague here in NL for further assistance or the licence.
Thanks for now. Have a nice sunny Sunday.
Kind regards, Wilco
OK, so:
* RFC 4072S firmware version 2022.0 should be available on the Phoenix Contact website this week. After upgrading the firmware, you can program the RFC in PLCnext Engineer 2022.0 for non-safety applications, without a safety license. This is a change from earlier versions, where a safety license was always required, even for non-safety applications.
* EPC project templates have now been removed from the PLCnext Engineer "home" screen. EPC controllers are now available by adding a library, in the same way as for RFCs.
Thank you for this additional information. Kind regards, Wilco
Hello,
could you share the information where i can find the libraries for the epc?
thanks in advance
