OPC UA and open protocol torque controllers

Hello all,

I am trying to use a EPC1502 as a data collector for various torque controllers. All the Torque controllers use open protocol over port 4545. I need to know if it is possible to use the OPC UA server on board to connect to them. I am not sure how to add devices to this OPC server. I am very familiar with Kepware and a few other OPC servers, but I am not with this one going through the PLCNext Engineer application. Plus I am not 100 percent sure if I can talk to open protocol devices or how to install or find OPC drivers for the torque controllers. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hello.

OPC UA servers like the ones from Kepware and Matrikon operate as "protocol converters" - that is, they communicate on one side using one or more protocols (e.g. "Open Protocol"), and on the other side they make that data available for reading and/or writing through an OPC UA server.

In order to get a PLCnext Control device to operate in a similar way, it would need to implement the protocol(s) that you need - e.g. "Open Protocol". This "Open Protocol" is not implemented as standard in PLCnext Control devices, so you would need to either (a) find an implementation of the "open protocol" in the PLCnext Store, or (b) implement the protocol in the PLCnext Control device yourself.

Maybe someone in the PLCnext Community has experience with "open protocol" that they can share here.
