Ethercat motion
Hi
Does the Phoenix Plcnext support the Codesys Softmotion library and if so what protocol will be implemented? Ethercat?
Will there be support for motion control, cnc or robotics?
If so what is the number axes limit?
Kind regards

Hello
have a look here for the supported Codesys Runtime details.

Does the Codesys runtime on PLCNext start a realtime thread with PREEMPT_RT?
Hello,
I am afraid that we don't have access to the implementation details of the Codesys software - you will need to direct this question to the developers.

Sometime has passed since my initial question in December 2019.
Is any of the PLCNext Devices able to run CODESYS SOFTMOTION CNC+ROBOTICS?
Kind Regards

I could be wrong, but I don't think Codesys are active on this forum, so they probably won't see this question.
You should contact Codesys directly, using the "Contact" button on their app page on the PLCnext Store:

You need to talk to the CODESYS partner for you country to get technical support on CODESYS https://www.codesys.com/company/system-partners.html however as a UK CODESYS partner that also has experience with PLC Next, I will do my best to answer your question.
Yes the PLC Next controller supports CNC + Robotics. You can run this in a demo mode for testing, but to use it outside of demo mode you need all of the following licenses for the controller:
* CODESYS Control for PLC Next Runtime
* CODESYS Softmotion SL
* CODESYS CNC + Robotics
The multicore license is optional, but is advantageous for motion / robotic applications as it allows you to distribute tasks across cores (e.g communications and motion instructions can be done over multiple cores). Only 1152 and 2152 models are currently supported and I personally don't have any information regarding the current performance of these systems.
