Generate software update files

Hello there,

We're currently trying to implement an automated software update for our system that uses the AXCF-3152.
We're aware that we need to replace the contents of the 'opt/plcnext/projects/PCWE' folder in order to update our software on the plc. This is something that we can easily script.

However, in order to get the files we need to upload to the PCWE folder, we first have to upload our software to a plc using PlcNext Engineer and then extract the files with scp/ftp.

We're wondering if it's possible to generate the files using PlcNext Engineer or the PlcnCli that would end up in the PCWE folder without uploading to a plc.

Is it perhaps possible to extract these files using the uncompressed version of the PlcNext Engineer project?

Or are the files stored in a temp/appdata folder before they're uploaded to the plc?

We're using PlcNext Engineer 2021.9 and PlcnCli 21.6.

Hi Daan,

It is not recommended that PLCnext Engineer projects be transferred manually, since no verification of the project files would then take place.

The current official way is to transfer the project/project changes using PLCnext Engineer.

In saying that, perhaps when the Simulator is released you might be able to send the files to the Simulator, and then copy the files from there. I don't know if that will work, but it would be worth a try.
