Most efficient way to communicate two PLCNext controllers

I am working on an application where two PLCNext will control a system. One of them is mainly acquiring data and the other doing some processing in C#. What is the best way to communicate between each other (Modbus TCP? Profinet?) The data exchanged will be arrays of Long numbers and arrays of booleans. Probably e a few Kilobytes every 5 minutes. Also is it possible to send a binary file? ModbusTCP Thanks

Hello Alex, what programming languages are you comfortable with? Do you want to stick to IEC 61131 or C#?

Exchanging data through PN is properbly the fastest and most efficient communication method data/performance wise. But its not build for large amounts of different variables. The question is how fast do you need how many variables? Is the amount of Data one ModBus Server provides sufficient? Mapping your Bit Arrays to Word_Arrays before transfering might save you a lot.

How large are the binary files? Tunnelig larger files through IEC is not very efficient…
How often do you need to send files and to changing targets?
Is it like synchronising config files or creating Backups of Databases…?

kind regards,
Oliver

Thanks Oliver, I would be more comfortable with IEC, although several subroutines will be written in C# by other programmers. What is PN? Also I haven’t tried the Modbus TCP server yet. Let me read the documentation to see its limits. Sorry I am totally new to PLCNext!!! The file transfer is an option that ocurred to me instead of sending arrays. The file size would be maximum 5 MB, and the frequency would be every 24 hours. It is to create databases. Thanks!
