Hello, Is it possible to add the syslog-ng (https://github.com/syslog-ng/syslog-ng) in the next firmware version? It is required to make a centralized logging system. Thanks.
Hi Dzmitry, It is possible to install syslog-ng, e.g. from the Optware-ng repository (I have done this successfully in the past). Is there a reason it needs to be included with the firmware? Martin.
Hi Martin, It’s convenient when you can configure a centralized log server out of the box:
OK, I guess there are a lot of things that different customers would like the PLC to do out-of-the-box, but if we were to include all those things in the factory firmware image then it would be enormous, and would include lots of things that lots of people don’t want. It seems that a good compromise is to install syslog-ng - or any other optional package - from a repository. Do you think that syslog-ng is a feature that the majority of PLCnext Control projects would need? In this case there would be an argument for including it in a future firmware image. Martin.
