Hi Phoenix Contact,
I am hoping you can provide an estimate of when gRPC will be ready for use in production from remote devices. Martin initially said on the makersblog that we would see remote access available in Firmware 2022.3 (https://www.plcnext-community.net/makersblog/how-to-create-a-client-for-the-plcnext-control-grpc-server-in-c/). However, in his latest article from Feb 2023 about how to connect securely using grpcurl (https://www.plcnext-community.net/makersblog/secure-remote-grpc-using-grpcurl/), it still states:
WARNING: The procedure described in this blog uses features of the PLCnext Runtime that are currently not supported. Use these features at your own risk, and definitely do not use these features in production applications.
We would like to use remote gRPC in our application and hope it will be available soon.
Thanks for your support.
Kind Regards,
Joshua
Hi Joshua.
Sorry about that. At the time that I wrote the first article, it looked certain that the release of the remote gRPC feature was imminent. Unfortunately that didn’t happen, and the release has now been delayed to at least firmware version 2024.0 LTS (possibly later). This delay has resulted from the addition of new features and security tests. I should have updated that article, and I will do that now.
