Update FW 2020.3 failed

First I tried to Update over WBN. But after restarting the PLC and the Browser I get - 505 Bad Gateway Then I tried to Update with WinSCP and Putty. After a periode of time I get this message. LastError: Installation error: Failed updating slot rootfs.1: failed to run slot hook: Child process exited with code 1

idle Putty.PNG What can I do?
Thanks. Alex

Hello Alex,

please check the current FW version.

“cat /etc/plcnext/arpversion”

What FW version was the PLC when you started the upgrade? Does a FW Reset type 2 help?

kind regards,
Oliver

Hi Oli, Arpversion: 20.3.1.28622

Svn Revision: 28622
Build Job: “jenkins-PLCnext-Yocto_AXCF2152-release%2F20.3.x-60” Alex

Hello Alex,

looks like the latest FW was installed.
Now the question is why the WBM was not working anymore after the Restart.
Can you check the /var/log/ contents?

What is the State of the PLCs LEDs.

How long did you wait or refresh after the update?
Could it be that your browser was caching the old page? (After a FW Update wbm will need to reload.)

IF nothing works
please try Reset type two.
( To restore the controller to default setting type 2, proceed as follows: •Switch off the supply voltage of the controller. •After the LEDs have gone out, press the reset button. •Hold the reset button down and switch the supply voltage on. The RUN and FAIL LEDs light up. •Press and hold the Reset button until (approx. 30 s) until all LEDs (except LEDs E and D) light up. •Release the reset button. The controller is reset to default setting 2. )
And then do a FW update again.

Yes, I did this, now. The IP Address is reseted now:( ?? That means I have no access to this controller, now. After that I tried to adjust my old IP in PLCNext Engineer 2020.3 but I see only a donut. Then I restarted PLCnext Eng. again. I see the controller, but I cannot chose anythink. I repeat to refresh, but the same issue :frowning: How can I set IP without PLCnext Engineer? PLCnext.PNG

Hello alitera,

after the reset the PLC will have IP 192.168.1.10 again.

You should be able to find the PLC with the Engineer (Search button next to the Ethernet Adapter settings.)

Most likely the FirmWare was reset to an older FW version… (the version it was shipped with)
So you will first have to do a FW reset to be able to add the PLC to a 2020.3 template. kind regards,
Oliver
